(Weekly Story Theme: Deep Sea) It is difficult to always see the source of an artist’s inspiration, and with Alex Forster is no different, except that we know the source, its just hard to find. In the depths of the ocean lurks a creature mutable in both shape and color, a fantastic octopus that can transforms and mimic its surroundings. It is from this deep creature that Alex Forster must find inspiration for his changing, plastic images.

Augor

(Weekly Theme: Space) In 2105 A.D., the once renowned, currently defeated Space Captain, Augor, floats in a tiny escape vessel endlessly out towards the end of the universe. The crew had a mutiny aboard the mother-ship when they finally rejected his insane quest to find new intelligent life among the stars. If he could only tell them now what he has seen from his escape pod, which he jettisoned from the mother-ship in a final effort to continue his quest, a multitude of horrendous monsters, who’s images are unavailable even to the most vivid imaginations. Suddenly a chasm in the field of stars comes into view and as quickly, Captain Augor is sucked into this black-hole. He is taken back through time, back to earth to become an artist and share with the world all the horrible life-forms he had seen back then in the future.

Flying Förtress

The pages of a comic book or the screen of even the largest HD television are not a big enough canvas for street artist, Flying Förtress. Though Flying Förtress produces delightful toys and work for print, it is the giant cartoon murals that stand out the most. Flying Förtress makes Creative Tempest think graffiti doesn’t have to be gritty.

* Stick Up Kids

The Stick Up Kids really define the kind of art Creative Tempest grew up on, murals with tags where the names are almost unreadable, which exist just as an excuse to paint bold lines, shapes and colors in places where everyone would see, where you weren’t allowed. It is immediately clear in these paintings that these artists are not simply after name recognition, but rebellion against a society that would build a blank canvas and demand it never be painted. These artists bring color and with it life into places desperate for revitalization. They inspired us, and so we will let them inspire you.

DAIM (not to be confused with the Swedish chocolate) is another graffiti artist from way back from us at Creative Tempest. DAIM’s eye-catching graffiti jumped off our computer screens and was branded into our adolescent memories like the image of the vampire bat in the mind of a young Bruce Wanye. The Dark Knight may strike fear into the hearts of criminals with the image of a bat, but Creative Tempest strikes inspiration into the minds of our audience with the images of DAIM’s work.

Ezra One

Ezra One’s work really captures the graffiti art mantra of taking art to the limits, and I don’t only mean the limits of the just legal system! Traditional artists move on from a base of realistic interpretations of objects, but Erza One’s comfort zone is taking letters, and the human form to the limits of exaggeration, far beyond realism. Creative Tempest likes to think of Ezra One as a spray-can cartoonist, the wall is his page, and the mural his comic book.

Jersey Joe
