Jan Steinhilber is like a master thief, but instead of sneaking into places and taking things from where they belong, he sneaks into places and puts things where they don’t belong. Like leaving behind a token that says, “I’ve been here,” but without disrupting anything else, a master thief with a sense of humor. Jan combines slick design and photography into his works that all seem like they should be real, but can’t possibly be. Sneaking into our ordinary lives to add a dash of the unexpected.

(Weekly Story Theme: Detective) Far away on the rooftop of a New York City high rise a glint of light flashes from the long lens of a camera like the beacon of a prison guard tower at night. Behind the lens are two detectives, masters of secret surveillance, Marc & Melanie Chartrand. They are peeking in on criminals completely unnoticed, taking photos of soon-to-be infamous characters. Marc and Melanie Chartrand’s highly stylized portrait photography bridges a gap between straight photography and illustration.

(Weekly Story Theme: Artificial Life) Parts and pieces wizz out of the shell of a giant super computer. Completely engulfed inside, computer engineers, Platinum FMD, hike out bad parts along with the good in order to find the cause of their problems. Platinum FMD’s hyper-realistic reality simulator has begun to malfunction, impossibilities in real life have started to develop in their created virtual life. The past has come to the future, the elements have become their opposites, and physics and physiology alike have come unhinged. Deeper inside the wire jungle, Platinum FMD gasps at what they find, a child at play making and severing connections that were never meant to be.

Leon Steele

(Weekly Theme: Space) Leone Steele has gathered from minefields on distant planets, new elements that contain the potential for unlimited power. Back on earth he has refined them to fuel his Doomsday device, a device that does not destroy with flames, or freezing, and not with explosives, or shrink rays. His device is designed to destroy the world as we know it, by recombining it, reordering it, into the world as we do not know it. What we are left with after the switch is flicked is a familiar world that is completely askew.

Khuong Nguyen

Khuong Ngyuyen needs a massage. His photo composites tell all Creative Tempest needs to know, and we are going to send him over a skilled Swede right away. Khoung Nguyen’s most compelling images feature people contorted and twisted up into inhuman poses, though the are created with such skill that Creative Tempest cannot determine if he simply edited the photos, or really did just photograph some incredibly skilled gymnasts. Either way someone either in front of or behind those photos is waking up in the morning with an aching back!

Phillip Toledano

Through an opening in a heavy door, a shaft of light falls onto the shining surface of the white linoleum floor of a pristine laboratory. The glowing shaft stretches wider and the black silhouette of Phillip Toledano moves into the room. Phillip Toledano is an experimental research scientist studying fantastic and absurd freaks. He sedates the creatures and removes them from their cages to pose them for archival photos. Somehow Creative Tempest got a hold of a few of these pictures, and we’re releasing them onto the web for you.

I say it because it’s clear that all of his photos are greased up with slippery baby oil, at least that’s how Creative Tempest thinks he makes such shimmering shining images. In order to hold some of his work in place for you to witness, Creative Tempest has delicately employed a pair of surgical tongs, but don’t hesitate to see what Gunther Philipp has to offer because it might slip away sooner than you think.
