Creative Tempest remembers stealing the ink from comic panels in the Sunday newspaper with a sheet of flattened Silly Putty, and we are sure artist Joshua M. Smith does too. However, the images Joshua M. Smith creates come to us not like they are lifted from the Sunday paper, but from bare skin instead. Joshua M. Smith’s style of illustration reflects his influence from classic tattoo art. It is seen in his bold lines, high contrast images, and stylized yet grim subject matter. Though Joshua M. Smith takes the tattoo art from the skin and puts the ink on paper or a computer, the permanency of his work is not at all lost to Creative Tempest as it is tattooed on the backs of our eyes.
