A tree is logged in the forest, shipped off to a sawmill, and eventually ends up in your box of colored pencils hundreds of miles away and looking very different, but by being in touch with nature Jennifer Maestre is able to take that once natural now unnatural form and make it organic again, though in an unexpected way. The creatures she creates from such unique materials are each like Frankenstein’s monster, a beast born from discrete parts and a lighting bolt of genius.
